Must-Have Makeup Products to Create a Flawless Finish

Written by Cosmix School of Makeup Artistry

Before makeup artists apply makeup, they use certain products to prepare the skin. These essential products make the difference between an amateur and professional finish – between makeup that fades by lunch time and makeup that stays with you long after the sun goes down.

What type of products do you need? The good news is you don’t have to take makeup classes to learn the secrets to creating a flawless look. Makeup artists rely on the following products to ensure that makeup goes on smoother and lasts longer:

Face Primers

If you’ve ever painted a wall before, you know that primer is the first coat of paint you need to prepare the surface for the real paint. Among the many products that can be used to prepare the face for makeup, face primer is at the top of the list right behind moisturizer. Used after facial lotion, face primer is the glue to holding everything together. First, it allows other products to seamlessly glide onto the skin.  But it’s also helpful for smoothing out and healing mature, sun-damaged, and dehydrated skin. To find the right primer, simply search for one that works with your skin type and addresses any skincare problems you might have.

Eye Shadow Base

You want vibrant eyes? You want eye shadow without those annoying creases? You need eye shadow base. Also called eye shadow primer, eye shadow base prepares the eye lids for eye shadow. It provides a smooth surface as well as the perfect hue to reflect the true color of the eye shadow. There are many different types of eye shadow bases on the market. Some makeup artists even use foundation.  Some products are even infused with ingredients that address other issues, which means you can find one that smoothes out wrinkles or hydrates your dry skin.

Lip Base

Do you have uneven toned lips? Is your upper lip lighter than your bottom lip? Many women experience this issue, which might make it hard to get the color you want. To even out these tones, you will need lip base. An even toned foundation will reflect your lipstick’s hue as well as keep the lipstick on longer. You can use a lip brush to apply the lip base right before lip gloss or lipstick. Lip base is also a great product to use if you’re planning to go straight from one event to another or don’t  have time to reapply lipstick throughout the day.
